El Segundo Chiropractor – Dr. Mathew DeVille

Following my experience, I chose Chiropractic as a profession.

Meet El Segundo Chiropractor,
Dr. Mathew DeVille

I discovered chiropractic while suffering a chronic shoulder injury that was unresponsive to physical therapy and other forms of rehabilitation. A chiropractor realized my shoulder complaint was also being affected by spinal dysfunction in my neck. Once these areas were addressed, my chronic shoulder pain slowly dissipated. Following my experience, I chose Chiropractic as a profession. It appealed to me most because it teaches a way to look differently at a patient’s symptoms and make adjustments naturally with my hands.

Finding The Root of The Problem

One of the most challenging and rewarding parts of being a Chiropractor is educating patients on expected clinical outcomes (chiropractic treatment versus the Western medical model). Many people want an instant, one-pill fix for their acute pain or injury. The Western medical model offers medications and pain management procedures, which often do not address the root of the problem causing the patient’s symptoms to reoccur or become chronic. Chiropractic treatment corrects spinal dysfunction allowing the body to recover and heal itself naturally.

The Highlight of My Educational Experience at Palmer College of Chiropractic?

I had the opportunity to take part in a Clinic Abroad Aid program on the island of Bequia in the West Indies. The trip took place during our final quarter of Chiropractic College, which allowed myself and 9 other students to perform chiropractic adjustments and provide basic medical care to local residents. It was an extremely educational and inspiring trip that has given me empathy and compassion that carries over into my current practice.

Life and Family

I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2-year old son. We live in the South Bay, so we try to spend as much time as possible outdoors and at the beach. We all love L.A. And try to get to see as much of it as possible. I also enjoy swimming, yoga, and stand-up paddle boarding.
